The requests for a hit far exceeded the number of responses! Apparently everyone is looking for the same information. Help us out! If you are using a good elementary level CD reference tool, please e-mail me. I'll post a follow up hit if there are more responses. --------------------------------------------------------------------- If you don't have Microsoft's Encarta, it's a must... It is networkable and can use the MOLP to buy inexpensive licenses for multiple workstations... This is our first year in business but so far we are using Information Finder (World Book), Print Shop and Microsoft Office. We have just written a grant which we hope to use to purchase Primary Source for magazines, First Connections (Golden Book) for lower grades and possibly The Student Writing Center. Hope this helps. Our primary grade teachers think highly of it. We wanted to get a networkable version but most of our primary grades have Macs and the networkable version is only available in Windows. We have the World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia on our network. It's good for middle and upper elementary grades. trwwhite@tenet.edu Teresa R. White Cunningham Elementary Library 4107 Phillips Wichita Falls, TX 76308 --------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm doing my LMS practicum in an elementary school and the intermediate students (4th-5th graders) just finished a science unit in the library searching a variety of print and electronic tools. Their overwhelming favorite was the Compton's CD-ROM for accessibility and amount of information. The machines at the school are mostly Macs, but they do have some IBMs in the Media Center. Encarta ran a close second, but it was the sound and pictures that endeared them rather than the amount of information, etc. =:)Beth Thompson LIS Graduate student University of Kentucky home of the 1996 NCAA Basketball champion Wildcats! --------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Philip Stohrer Portage West Middle School Portage, Michigan pstohrer@edcen.ehhs.cmich.edu http://www.ehhs.cmich.edu/~pstohrer
