For all of you who responded to my questions about technology in the library, thank you. The information was enlightening and helpful. The main themes in the responses are that a SLMS's role changes constantly, that it involves books and technology, that a balance must be maintained between the two, and that books will never be replaced by computers. The responses made it clear that a SLMS must get (have) the education to be proficient in many areas including literature, teaching, and information finding. He or she must understand both literature and technology so that each can be used appropriately to satisfy the patron's particular need at any given time. Thanks for your input. L. Saliba SUNY Oswego
