Thanks to all those who sent messages regarding my accidental post on the Tasmanian massacre. I have tried to respond to each person individually. While a long way from the scene, I think all Australians have been affected and one of the benefits of email has been the international friendships and community feelings that have formed. To lighten the list a little, I must tell you two incidents reported in our local paper about the current fad for Jane Austen. First a teacher asked his Year 10 class who had seen 'Sense & Sensibility'. He was surprised to see some unlikely boys put up their hands. Further questioning found that they had not enjoyed it and they went because they thought it was a sequel to 'Dumb & Dumber'. Second a bookseller had a university student ask him if the book of 'Sense & Sensibility' was based on the film. Then she asked him if Jane Austen had written any other books and finally floored him by asking if she was still writing. As I said she was a university student.
