Personally as a new media director I like having the accession numbers ON
the book.  The previous media specialist used the year as the first two
digits and then a four digit number, so I can take any book off the shelf,
read it's number, (890312) and know that it was the 312th book
purchased/catalogued in 1989.  That is very helpful for book replacement,
etc. in my opinion.  I like having that knowledge right at my fingertips.
