The week before we close down for inventory I have what is called a 'film
festival'. Basically I bring in a longer film (from our local ESD) that I
cannot show normally because of the length. (I usually show Electric
Grandmother one year and Rainbow War another week.) I then 'throw out the
regular schedule" and have the teachers sign up for a 45 minute period (as
opposed to a 30 min) and bring in as many as 3 classes at once. The kids
return their books (hopefully) and the teachers don't seem to feel too
gyped on their planning time. (of course there will probably be someone
who tries to bring their class the last week during inventory!) I set this
up several weeks in advance and put out a calendar of when books are due,
inventory, etc.

Just to ease anyone's concern, I do not just 'show' the video...there is
discussion appropriate to the film...but it certainly helps ease the
transition at the end of the year.
