About a month ago I wrote to LM_NET regarding freezing problems I was having with some Mac 5200s. Thank you to the many who responded with recommendations for solving this problem. Your're all wonderful. Sorry that it has taken me so long to respond. It took awhile to try out different suggestions. Two suggestions helped considerably: 1. Periodically clearing the Netscape cache, listed under Option: Network Preferences. 2. On the one computer that had almost constant freeze ups, we re-installed the system software and that dramatically brought down the number of freeze ups. Other items of interest: 1. We plan to install the System software 7.5.5 upgrade, having been promised that it is a major improvement over 7.5.2 which we now have installed. 2. The telephone man told me that the manufacturer of the telephone system in my building guaranteed transmission of data only to 9600 baud and our modem is a 28.8, and he suggested we use a 14.4 modem or spend the money for a direct line, neither of which we have done, so we still experience occasional freeze ups. 3. Someone mentioned software available from the internet which helps with Netscape freeze ups, but I forget the name right now. Also another person wrote to me saying that she had tried this software and it had actually made things worse, so she removed it. Next year our local cable company has promised us connection to the Internet via cable modems which connect directly to one's computer network. I hope that this will solve many of these dial-up problems. I just hope I don't end up with a whole new set of technical problems. Do I sound paranoid? Anyway, I hope this info helps others with similar problems and long live LM_NET! Karen Radtke Shorewood High School Shorewood, WI kradtke@omnifest.uwm.edu
