A while back I posted a question to this group regarding people's experiences with the new AT&T Worldnet service. Most people who replied were, like me, eager for an alternative to AOL. Many recommended just going with a no frills lo-cost ISP (a regional one) that offered unlimited use for a flat rate (e.g. $19.95/mo or $99/year in some cases) even though it means buying your own software (e.g. Eudora, Netscape). Well, AT&T finally sent me their software for MAC (just out of Beta testing phase; very new) and it has been a nightmare ever since. It turns out that the netscape 2.0 they use is totally unable to receive e-mail for the customer. 'It goes to their server, but not to the individual. If you try to use AOL 3.0, the AOL disables worldnet's software. Their first level tech people are generally inept re MACS. They kept contradicting themselves and used the trial and error method. They have some higher level people who are trying to figure out what is causing the problem and they are not offering any general financial rebates to those of us experiencing this half-way ISP service. They say it is up to each customer to negotiate their own financial arrangement. It is truly a shoddy way to run a business. Is anyone else out there experiencing this problem? I understand AOL is launching a 19.95 unlimited use arrangement Dec. 1, which, by the way, will be a default arrangement......i.e. you will automatically be put on that account unless you specifically request to retain the 9.95 mo limited use account! Buyer beware. Comments? Pat Wallace denwall@aol.com
