GEN: Cataloging

Have an odd question or two:  I have been "volunteered" to help assign LC
cataloging numbers to a collection of both reference books and some
non-published material, as conference proceedings, bibliographies, family
histories, etc. for a local genealogy society.  I have not had any
experience with LC cataloging.  Therefore, my questions:
1. Is there a single reference source I can use (in some college or univ.
or large public lib.)?
2. Is there an online group to which I can pose this problem?
