Mahuhay, Mike Eisenberg, our Leader, was the opening keynote speaker at the Central East Asia Council of Overseas Schools (CERCOS) Teachers' Conference this weekend, November 8 & 9, 1996, in Manila. Mike took Manila and the conference by storm--not an easy task in this land of typhoons, tornadoes and volcanic eruptions. Mike spent Thursday working with our media specialists and computer teachers at International School Manila. These meetings were so helpful to our library faculty. Two hours gaining vision, insight and techniques, plus an opportunity to carefully check our compass with The Navigator. Thursday night Mike spoke to, and empowered, a theater-full of parents concerning ways we can help our children with their homework through employing the Big Six strategies. Friday morning Mike addressed an overflow crowd of 750+ delegates from Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei, and of course Manila , and a dozen other cities on this side of the Pacific rim, for his keynote address: Real or Virtual: Ensuring that Students Are Effective Users of Information. Mike delivered two more smashing programs to packed venues of enthralled teachers. Those talks were: Developing and Implementing an Information & Technology Skills Curriculum (The Big 6), and last but not least, AskERIC: Education Information With a Personal Touch. In this presentation, Mike also highlighted KidsConnect! At the moment, Mike is the keynote speaker at the EARCOS Conference--the administrators' version of CERCOS-- also being held in Manila. Statesiders Beware! We will try to do everything in our power, and make many outrageous offers, to keep Mike and Carol Eisenberg here.
