BEWARE GROLIER 96! I am having a problem with my Grolier 96. Students have discovered what I guess is a bookmark feature.....on the bottom of one of those file folders where they can search (I think it's on the browse one-the cd is at work and I use LM_NET at home) is a button which students can click on. Then they can change the term that appears on the list. Unfortunately, my middle schoolers have discovered that they can change them to swear words and bodily parts names. Someone changed quite a few planets to something totally unacceptable. The next student that encountered this came to see me about it. I changed it back, but I wonder what else has been changed. I called Grolier tech support, and they said this is a bookmark feature. It is also featured on the 97 edition, which is now being marketed. When asked if the bookmark feature could be disabled, they said it was buried deeply into the programming, and saved on your hard drive in such a way as to be inaccessable. Thanks a lot Grolier!!!!!!! I had to UN-Install the program, and then re-install the program to get the planet names reset. I cleared the Grolier preferences from the preferences folder in the system folder. Then I had to clear the alias from the launcher list, create a new alias, and reinstall it so the launcher button could be used. I use Foolproof security on this computer, so I have to figure out how they did this and why it saved! I don't have time for this on a daily basis! Can anyone make a suggestion as to how to beat the kids at this game? Mrs. Jeanette B. Heath Library Media Specialist Red Creek Jr./Sr. High School Red Creek, NY 13143 Heathf@dreamscape.com
