I have a feeling this may be related to the size of the building and amount of time a professional is there. My building is 400 students. We have an aide (which the principal points out is the library aide, not MY aide - as he does with classroom aides too and I think he has a good point) We also have about 30 parent volunteers. I urge them to help anyone who needs it as we are a very busy facility. Staff and children however do know I am the librarian or whatever you want to call it. I once worked in a high school of about 900. There students who came to me for help might say "the librarian at the desk told me to see you. I kindly said I was the librarian. The person at the desk was the clerk." They might be embarrassed, but since the clerk sent them to me I thought I would get that straigt from the beginning. The larger the place, the more impersonal it gets.
