Carol, First, remove all the books from the affected area(s). Next, get great quantities of paper towels. Place a towel between every page of every affected book (don't forget to put one in between the covers and front and back pages!) (This is for the saturated books.) Take these books and place as many in a stack as will fit into a "C" clamp. Attach the clamp to the end of the table, and put electric fans in the area to help dry the books. Leave the books for about 24 hours, then check them. Repeat process if needed, or put new books in the clamp. Contact Susan Swartzberg at Alexander Library, Rutgers. She is a preservation specialist, and a member of Princeton Preservation Group. The group is on call for emergencies. Call the reference desk at Alexander Library 908-932-7509 and tell them you need to get in touch with Susan; they should be able to tell you her number or that of the PPG. (I apologize for not having her number; our library was working on its disaster plan and took all my folders on this. If I do find her number, I'll email it to you.) Good luck!
