MS and SEC: Annie John by Kincaid

Dear netters:
I would like some feedback on the book, ANNIE JOHN by Jamaica Kincaid.  I
read the book and  liked it, so without reading reviews I added it to the
MS collection.  The MS clerk came to me today to discuss the book.  She is
about half way into it and is concerned because of all of the hugging and
kissing amongst the girls.  She thinks that our rural, unsophisticated
population would see that as lesbian behavior.
When I read the book, I assumed that the hugging and kissing was a cultural
thing and didn't pay much attention to it.
If you have read it and have any comment to make on any aspect of the book
would you please reply to me personally.  I have NO PLANS to remove the
book from the collection I would just like to know your responses to it.
