Within three hours of my request this afternoon for information on the Christmas legend dealing with spiders, I had a multitude of responses. Thanks to all of you who so generously took your time to let me know about the legend and where I might find printed copies. For anyone else who is interested you, the most frequently mentioned source was a version of the story by Shirley Climo called "The Cobweb Christmas." Also mentioned was "The Christmas Spider: A Puppet Play from Poland and Other Traditional Games, Crafts and Activities" by Loretta Holz; "A Dozen Silk Diapers" by Melissa Kajpust; and "The Cobweb Curtain" by Jenny Koralek. My latest request comes from our 5th/6th language arts teacher who is beginning a unit on quilts. I am looking for lesson plans, good sources of information on quilting and quilts, as well as books to use as resource materials. I would love to find several "everybody" books that are short and easy to read that I can read to these classes in a 15-20 minute time span. If you have anything that might help, please e-mail me, fax me, or just send by snail mail. TIA Lou Brewer, LMS Nickerson Elem.
