Hello all,
Several weeks ago I mentioned that I had attended a session where the
various web filters were compared. Harry Willems who presented that
session just sent me the following. If you have problems following this, I
do have the packet he mentioned.

Ms. Proctor: In your packet there is a pink handout (7-8) pages of
comparisons from cnet. They also have a graphic representation of each
side by side. Follow the links in this page I've mailed to you (save it
and open it with your browser). Also, see the Sept. 1996 issue of
Internet World, P. 49. It has a good article and comparison chart

knows their way around the Internet realizes that the media frenzy over
online pornography is mostly hype. Unfortunately, it's also true that porn
is out there and accessible to those who know where to find it. If you have
kids--especially Net-savvy ones--you have reason to be concerned.</dl><br
clear=left>
<p>

soothe these fears (and make a buck in the process) several software
companies have created filtering applications that claim to make the Net
safer for children. Each application uses a slightly different method to
block obscene or pornographic material. We reviewed and tested all of the
available programs to see how well they work.</dl><br clear=left>
<p>

find? Basically, software is no substitute for parental guidance. Most
products can be defeated; those that can't are so restrictive that kids may
be prevented from getting the most from their online experience. Our
advice: supervise your children when they're online, just as you do during
other activities. Software, the government, standards organizations, the
V-chip--none can replace Mom or Dad as copilot.</dl><br clear=left>
