furniture polish and books.

Hi,
        I have heard recently that it words great to polish books with
furniture polish like Endust orPledge.  I was told it takes the dirt and
grime off and leaves a finish that repels the dirt.  Have any of you
heard this before.  It sounds great but I need someone elses opinion
before I set my volunteers to work at it.  I have heard about using
alcohol to clean the books but it seems the polish may preserve them.
What d you think?
