TECH: Computer sign-ups

We have two computers in the library that students may sign up to use
before and after school, at recess, and at lunch. You can imagine they are
heavily used, mostly by boys who want to play games on them. I tried having
a sign up sheet so that certain people didn't get the computer all the
time. The little rascals scratch out each others' names and put in their
own and argue constantly over whose turn it is. I'd really like to set it
up somehow so that the computers could be "checked out" so to speak, using
the patrons barcodes in my Winnebago system. We don't have an advance
booking module, and I really need a way to sign them up in advance. I'd
also like to make it so that they could look at a screen on one of the
workstations and see who's signed up and when but not be able to change any
of the entries. Is there any way to create a database, in Clarisworks for
instance, and get it to accept a barcode scan to fill in the fields?
