Judging from your e-mail address I can tell that both of us work for the
Milwaukee Public Schools. Let me tell you a story that is more appalling
and sorry than the one in the NEA. Our own school system conducted an
inservice at UWM entitled "How to teach a research paper". the inservice
was aimed at high school and middle school teachers. A reference
librarian from the university's library showed the teachers how to
conduct a search on the university's  online catalog and various indexes.
Not once was there the mere mention of the teachers taking their classes
to their own media center  to conduct research. Just look at our own
backyard and wonder what's going on.
