When we did our conversion, we had to send our student records to Winnebago
and ran into just this problem. I don't know what program the district
office uses, but a tech person in San Francisco had to talk our secretary
through the process of selecting and downloading the files and then we had
to send the disks to him FIRST so that he could do some bead rattling over
them before sending them on to Winnebago. The whole process cost us $500
(for the tech, not Winnebago). I sent Winnebago both disks, the unprocessed
data and the disk the tech made changes to, and Winnebago said that yes,
the changes were necessary. I just wanted to be sure we weren't getting
taken in. Nevertheless, there's no way we can go through that process for
each year's incoming students. I'm sure I will wind up typing them in
myself.
