I got MANY responses to my question about state websites.
Several asked that I compile a HIT, so here it is. Thanks for everyone's
help!

Write listserv@ers.bitnet

In body, put

get ia data (or any other 2-letter postal abbreviation)

A return mailing will give you great stuff about the state you entered!
It's NOT WWW, but it IS information! :) Good Luck.

This is not a direct answer to your question about the states but if you
are exploring states I think you will find this site interesting, you
can find a map for anyplace. Try it. http.//www.mapquest.com/

[suggested more than once] Go to the International Registry of Schools at
Web66.
http://web66.coled.umn.edu/

You will find tourist information if you click on the city link icon on
each of
the state pages.
------------------------------
I've used USA CityLink before to get state information, and it works very
well. The url for the page is included in my signature below. When you
get there, select "Curriculum Links", then "Social Studies", and then
"Geographical." You'll find USA CityLink there.

By the way, Nebraska has LOTS of information available. You'll also find
a "Nebraska" section on our web page under "Social Studies." [Note: I
forgot to copy the signature!]

Have you ever heard of YAHOO?

------------------------------
Info Louisiana follows the same format as NJ : http://www.state.la.us
------------------------------
You can access Mount Rushmore and in turn SD with this web address:
http//www.state.sd.us/state/executive/tourism/rushmore/rushmore.html

I just found this site--try it out and see if this is what you are looking
for. I know it doesn't have Wisconsin, so as soon as I locate our new
tourism site, I'll forward that as well.

Here's some for Wisconsin--

If you have access to the April edition of Gourmet magazine, it has an
internet address book for 38 states, including the District of Columbia.
The listing also contains addressees for Asia, Europe and the Middle
East, and islands in the Carribean. I hope this helps.
------------------------------
I don't know if there's a web site for every state but here's
Vermont's: http:///www.cit.state.vt.us/. melissa

Any current US almanac lists the names and addresses of boards of tourism
for each state. If that state also has online capabilites, it should be
listed there too. Many of these addresses include 800 numbers to call and
see if they have a home page.

Regarding respective state websites, you might want to consider
the Virtual Tourist information available at www.vtourist.com/webmap/
/usa.htm and www.vtourist.com/vt/usa.htm.
------------------------------
HAve you taken a look at the Virtual Traveller site?
[NB: Same as Virtual Tourist?]
