Dear Colleagues,

Can anyone out there please give me the mailing address or fax no
for subscriptions to the journal *Biography today*?

Many thanks

have just decided to return to
"library". As a school board chair, I presided over the opening of a new
"leading edge" middle school with the library truly at its heart. The
principal, a superb educator, when leading a tour of dignitaries through
prior to the official opening stated that they had changed the name from
"library" to "information center" because it was no longer just books.
Little did she know that the same speech could have been made in 1966. I
put our struggle in the same category as disenfranchised groups in
society who are continually renaming themselves. Once we feel empowered
it will no longer be necessary. Of course, every study also tells us that
the public are way ahead of decision-makers in their support of
"libraries." Someone should do a study of the effect of name changes on
decision-makers and resource allocators...--Ken Haycock
