Thanks to all of you who responded to my question about the origin of
the phrase "The whole nine yards." I received many answers. Many of
you replied that the phrase refers to the number of yards of fabric
in a bolt. Others said it had to do with football. Some thought it
had to do with the amount of cloth in a ship's sails. Other answers
included the amount of cement in a cement mixer, and there were still
other answers. I printed all of them out and gave them to my
husband. If I have been rude in not posting a hit, I apologize, but I
do not know how to do this. I have responded personally to those
submitting answers, with the intention of posting a thanks to all, as
I am doing now. I was pleased that so many of you were interested
in finding out what kind of feedback I received. I will learn to
post a hit as soon as possible. Thanks for all of your help, Jean
