REF: old series about Appalachia

Hi everyone,

I had a question from a parent last evening at our open house at school.  She
remembers a series of books read by a teacher in junior high school, by a
male author, and dealing with positive aspects of living in Appalachia.  This
would have probably been in the late 60's or early 70's.  That's my era, and
it doesn't ring a bell here.  Any ideas out there?  Thanks a bunch!!
