The thirteen secondary librarians in my district are struggling to find effective accountability measurements/methods. For example, the traditional Average Daily Circulation figure based on the actual number of books checked out each day no longer appears realistic in view of the many electronic databases now in use or the practice of many teachers of restricting the use of numerous books to the library so that each of their classes can have access to all the same resources. We have many questions. What data is collected and reported by the libraries in your district which is useful to you in your program development and management? What data is assembled for presentation to site committees or boards of education? How is all of this data acquired, and how is it put to use? Have you found an effective way to measure electronic database use? Is any of your data correlated to instructional outcomes? If so, how? We will appreciate all suggestions. Please reply to me directly. TIA. Mary Ellen Scribner, Librarian 512 464-4033 Westwood High School, Round Rock ISD 512 464-4020 (FAX) 12400 Mellow Meadow Dr. scribner@tenet.edu Austin, TX 78750-1824
