I have a copyright question I don't think I've seen discussed here before. I suspect I know the answer, but I'll bring it up for discussion anyway. We have students hour after hour who are looking up the same information in Microsoft Encarta and other CD-ROM encyclopedias. Next year, the same topics will come up in class again and they will run the same searches. Here, then, is my question: Is it legal to "recycle" those copies that students have already printed out by keeping them in the vertical file and checking them to students in the future? My instinct is that this would not be acceptable, but it seems a shame to throw away the old and have someone else create a new copy later. Comments?
