Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 15:33:10 -0500 From: Catherine.Balkin@HARPERCOLLINS.com (Catherine Balkin) _Am I Blue_ edited by Marion Dane Bauer is a collection of short stories by such writers as Francesca Lia Block, James Cross Giblin, Robert Lipsyte, and Bruce Coville (Bruce wrote the title story) and won last year's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Book Award sponsored by the Social Responsibility Roundtable of the American Library Assoc. It's geared toward young adults and is a wonderful book. This year's winner of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Book Award is _Hood_, an adult title by Emma Donoghue. It will be coming out in paperback shortly. Another title you should keep in mind is _"Hello," I Lied_ by M.E. Kerr which is not yet published but will be coming out this May. This is a really unusual book about a gay boy who has a love affair with a girl even while he's struggling to come out to his friends and family. My feeling is that it's going to be an important book. It's certainly one of my favorites and I'm anxiously waiting to see how it's received. All of these books are published by HarperCollins. I hope this information is useful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 14:35:03 -0800 From: "Gloria R. It's too bad that they wrecked it in the movie version. The book was terrific. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 25 Mar 1997 06:28:14 -0500 (EST) jhulslan@gamera.syr.edu Just read "Earthshine" a couple of weeks ago. I'm at home and don't remember the author--some librarian, huh,--but, it was one wonderful fiction book about gays.
