Okie dokie, top 3-5, huh? I'll try to be brief!

_The journey out: a guide for lesbian, gay, and bisexual teens_, by Rachel
Pollack and Cheryl Schwartz (Viking, 1995). A good primer about what it
means to live as a l/b/g person.

_Dive_, a novel by Stacey Donovan (Dutton, 1994). It also deals with
alcoholism of a parent and illness of a parent, but it's a great coming out
story. Reminds me very much of my own!

_S.P. likes A.D._ by Catherine Brett (Women's Press (Toronto), 1989).
This short novel centers around Stephanie's winning sculpture entry and her
infatuation with Anne Delaney.

_Is it a choice? : answers to 300 of the most frequently asked questions
about gays and lesbians_ by Eric Marcus (Harper, 1993). Fairly
self-explanatory title -- chapters include self-discovery/growing up,
coming out, dating, relationships, military, religion, discrimmination and
hate crimes, sex, sports, mass media, education, gay rights, AIDS, aging,
and work.

_Gay and Lesbian rights: a reference handbook _, by David E. Newton
(ABC_Clio, 1994). This is from their Contemporary world issues series and
is set up similarly to the others I've seen. Chapters include the struggle
for gay and lesbian rights, a chronology, biographical sketches of people
on both sides of the issue (for example, Jerry Falwell), statements and
documents relating to the issue (including legislation, domestic
partnership benefits, military policies), a directory of organizations, and
a fairly extensive bibliography.

_Am I blue? : coming out from the silence_, short stories edited by Marion
Dan Bauer (Harper, 1994). These stories are from several perspectives --
young gay people, siblings and children of gay people, friends, etc.

_Not the only one : lesbian and gay fiction for teens_, short stories
edited by Tony Grima (Alyson Publications, 1994). This collection is for
gay and lesbian teens, not their friends or family. Alyson is a gay and
lesbian publisher. This is highly recommended by my g/l/b students.
