Hello there everyone...
The Links99 folks seem to be running a site which will include your web
site (without permission, if the discussion of late is any indication)
while the ASD folks do actually list every school in the country
regardless of whether the school has a web site or not.

I was curious about making our school site better and adding photos as
encouraged by the ASD advertising. I called. The way they get the
sponsorship for the program is to have the student body create a mailing
list of sorts. They send home a package of 7 info labels with each
student and for every student who returns all 7 (or perhaps it was 9)
labels, the school earns points. The program is cumulative and the
points can be carried from year to year in order to purchase equipment
and merchandise from ASD. The ASD folks in return use the addresses
they receive to send out -one- mailing to the addresses supplied to
encourage them to subscribe or renew their current subscriptions with
their company.
In return for this one action, ASD will help you get your web page
updated, put some photos and current info there, and generally help with
web and internet related issues (all of which will cost points)...
The program has been going on for several years now and some of the
school have been involved for more than five years. I was willing to
give it a try, but our principal was skeptical. . .oh, well...

As for the Links99... if they are using a web site without permission,
what is the gripe? People come to the web site without permission in
the first place...what is the problem with having the web site linked to
other sites which cater to educational issues and endeavors? Isn't the
web site created to have people come and visit? I'm not sure I
understand the objections to having a web site advertised in other
locations. . .perhaps someone could enlighten me ever so politely?

Aloha...
