Gen: Need book title

One of my teacher is searching for the title of a book.  It is fiction
and she believes it dates to the early '80's.  The story is about a toy
mouse and his father who live in a toystore until they are sold to
families.  All the toys from the store eventually end up in a dum
together.  They go through many adventures together.  Key images from
the book for this teacher are:  clock work wind up to mouse, the father
and child are together with the child on the fathers back, mansard roof
on the doll house, Treacle brittle, rats living in dump.
The story ends with the father and child getting to the house and
presumably living happily ever after.
