Boise/Glacier/Banff travel info

I hope it is not inappropriate to ask for this info from this list.  I am
planning a summer trip to visit a friend in Boise and plan to rent a car and
tool on up to Glacier and Banff.  How long of a trip from Boise to those spots
am I looking at?  I am trying to estimate costs and how long to stay out there.
What places along the way or in the parks would you recommend I visit?  I plan
to do some hiking.  Any trails you would highly recommend?  Places to stay?
