Nuclear book title

Help!  I have an eighth grade teacher looking for a title of a book
about nuclear war.  The plot involves nuclear weapons that have already
been launched, and the nuclear cloud which has killed everyone on the
planet except those in Australia.  They are basically waiting to die,
and have even been given cyanide pills to use when the cloud arrives.
If anyone knows the title of this book, it would be most appreciated.
