To see the potential of the "free Internet" when combined with
"pay-for-service" information such as Electric Library and EBSCO
in a somewhat structured research progression aimed at carrying
out the intention of the AASL Information Standards (decision-making
abd problem-solving), check out these model unit plans developed
in June by Bellingham (WA) teachers:

http://www.bham.wednet.edu/online.htm

            Grade Seven
                  Which volcano is least risky?
Which group has the better legal claim to the Kennewick Man?
Which disease is most deserving of our research dollars?

            Grade Six
What are the best ways to reduce teen smoking?

If you'd like to know how to build such research modules, check out the
online staff development modules which taught the teachers how to
build these.

These research units provide scaffolding to support a wide range of
teachers in the use of the new information technologies in service of
higher level thinking and help protect against info-glut, info-garbage and
info-smog.

Enjoy!

Best wishes,
