Good Morning,

At MacWorld Expo in Boston, the Education area for Apple featured a product
called EdView. While not a blocking filter, the product lists sites selected
for classroom use and allows teachers to use Internet sites "based on
foolproof security". EdView's extensive database has been thoroughly
analyzed, categorized by subject, and targeted to grade level and curriculum
by a staff of educators "with over a thousand years of education
experience".. It is priced reasonably per school with an unlimited site
license.
In light of Intellectual Freedom comments reported and recorded at ALA in
San Francisco, this product might be suggested as an acceptable Internet
product for school use, in light of expressed concerns with commercial
filtering products being discussed by public library users. It expands the
concept of the ALA recommended sites for parents (www.ala.org). The web site
for EdView is www.edview.com and works with Netscape and Internet Explorer. A
special MacWorld attendees discount applies until October 24 with fax of show
special form and purchase order.

The Mac OS 8 product was also available for sale at prices around $89 or
less. My first look at the operating system on daughter's 24 meg Powerbook
1400 is impressive. It incorporates Microsoft Explorer and improved stability
with Microsoft Office components. There are incompatability warnings about
installation on the Mac 6100 and 7100 Power PC units with added DOS cards.
Additional information is available on the MacWorld.com and Apple.com web
sites.
