ELEM: Rules and Spinelli book

Dear LMNetters:  Have narrowed library rules for elem to the three 'r's
-only kids don't know what that means anymore!  Relax (leave a bad
attitude, anger, etc. outside the room.  this is a safe place for all.
If you are entering with a problem that needs immediate attention,
direct it to the proper authorities.) Respect (each other, ourselves,
the room and books)  Read  (there's something here for everyone, this is
a reading place and needs quiet when a whole class is gathered (I tell
my little ones to be snowflakes) return books so others can read them.)
Will play hangman (bookman) with third or fourth grade to uncover the
words and discuss the explanations - they in theory will come up with!

Also, I'm halfway through Jerry Spinelli's new book The Library Card.
Very thoughtful material for discussions.  4 short stories about a
strange blue rectangular card that draws the kids to the library and
changes something in their lives. Story 2 is a great tie-in for no tv
week.

Today was my first day back in one of two new schools - wish me luck!
