Hi All, Sorry this took so long. I wanted to check out these options before I sent a HIT. I'm in Spokane and have not found "library related alphabets" for the wall above my Everybody section-which was why the question was brought up. I love to have curriculum related items in the library on hand to refer to when teaching. I do have the the multicultural alphabet that is offered in Upstart-the students really liked it. I purchased the Anamalia Wall Frieze from Amazon.Com...BUT... this is a very LARGE alphabet and chances are you'll need "two" walls for the whole alphabet to fit. I've been keeping my eye open for alphabet books to laminate but if you want to put it up on the wall you'll need "two copies" of the books (won't you?) to get each side of the page. I've also purchased large posters of alphabets and have cut them up, laminated them and put them on the wall. I'ld still have to see "quality alphabets" put out by illustrators popular to our students that we can use in the library AND have them available to librarians in our catalogs. Our jobs are time consuming enough without having to reinvent the wheel. Below are the suggestions that I received: Thank you all for your help. Now hopefully publishers out there will realize there is a market for these products and produce materials for this need. I think I saw a Beatrix Potter alphabet banner when I was in London last year. I think I also saw a colors banner. You might contact Fredrick Warne and request a calendar of Beatrix Potter materials. Karen Becknell Media Specialist The Lamphere Schools Madison Heights, MI becknellk@voyager.net Hi Sandy: I used to have a terrific one by Dick Bruna, as well as the Brian Wildsmith one. I think you could find these at any educational supplies store. Dorothy ------------- dcousins@north.island.net Dorothy Cousins, Teacher-Librarian Sea View Elem. I'm not sure how large it is, and of course I'm at home and can't help you with which catalog carries it, but if you are interested, I'll check on Tuesday when I get back to school and send you the info if I can find it. E-mail me if you are interested. ************************************************************************ * Cheryl Skiles, Librarian <cskiles@mail.win.org> John Weldon Elementary : A Year-Round Elementary School Francis Howell School District St. Charles, MO http://www.fhsd.k12.mo.us/John_Weldon/ Don't know any specific author/illus alphabets but... I bought the multicultural alphabet (the one full of color photos of things) from Demco or Upstart and hung it in my library. It is GORGEOUS and though sophisticated, the kids loved it!! Patty I use Mary Azarian's alphabet book in the library. I removed the pages from the paperback book, laminated the pages, and hung the pages in a prominent spot. They are so New Englandand are very much at home in our New Hampshire library. Mary Stumhofer, Librarian Rollinsford School Rollinsford, New Hampshire Sandy--I, too, have the Wildsmith alphabet poster set. You might try an out of print bookshop. Also check Books in Print for ABC books, alphabets. Large dictionaries often have Greek, Cyrillic and Hebrew alphabets (kids are fascinated by different language alphabets--it broadens their appreciation and understanding of the world) National wildlife has a poster of an alphabet made from designs on different butterfly wings. Most poster places are aware of it. Online searching the Library of Congress (www.locis.gov) opens additional possibilities! Good luck.
