 Dear LM-NET:
As you may remember, last spring Mike Eisenberg asked each of us to
weed our Space and Astronomy books to reflect current scientific
information. Many of us were amused and surprised at the books we found in
 our own libraries.

We then decided to take on one topic a month, with the
help of SUNLINK, Florida's K-12 union database of library materials,
located on the internet at http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu> Since we started
the Weed of the Month club, the SUNLINK staff has recorded
250-300 hits per week on the Weed web pages from all over the
globe! The Weed of the Month web pages are located at:
 http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/default.html

The topic for November is CAREERS. Please do a check of your books and
audio visual materials and see if you have anything that needs to be tossed!

Here are some major changes to consider: male/female sterotyping in jobs, new
fields/jobs not in existence 5 or 10 years ago, and the anticipated growth or
 decline of occupations.

Also keep in mind anything with ethnic stereotypes, or other materials
 that are questionable.

THEN - share your findings with other LM-NETters. Do you have a GREAT
set of current information about Careers? Did you find something absolutely
appalling? Our LM_NET discussions are monitored by the SUNLINK staff. They
are looking for your great/appalling books to add to their Weed of the Month
web site. No names will be used, so feel free to share information on what you
 find!

Maybe you know of a career that has a lack of available materials. We need
to know that, too! There may be aspiring authors out there, looking for
 topics to write about.

Thanks for your help. We can learn so much from each other!
