I encourage students at my school to take books home over the holidays. I mention that this is a good time to read longer books that they might not have time for while school is in session. Yes, occasionally some students move over the holidays unexpectedly (and therefore lose the books they had checked out), but on the whole I think the benefits far outweigh the costs. Usually at the end of year, after inventory, I have 10-20 "missing" books. In a collection of 8,000+, I consider this minimal loss. IMHO Wilson L. Breeden, Librarian Lyndon B.
