I hadn't realized that there were so many of you interested in the reasons for and methods of teaching elementary age students in mixed grade classes. (You can call this anything you want, it involves having more than one grade in a class). For those of you who don't know it already, most of the classes at this k-5 school of 290< students are blended. I have answered several of you individually but I feel that I am not really the person to answer many of the questions. Though I my son attended this school 11< years ago and there were a few blended classes then, this is my first year as a staff member and I am the L/M Spec not a classroom teacher here. I have not participated in the past staff discussions which resulted in the current and past blended class configurations. My principal, Masanee Brown is willing to answer your questions or refer you to someone more knowledgeable. Until we get wired both she and I are operating from our homes. When our district gets wired ( the latest date is December but we're not holding our breath on this one) there will be email, Internet and library catalog access in all the classrooms and offices in our school. Feel free to email to her at mbrown@jeffnet.org all your or your administrator's questions. Though this is only her second year at this school, she knowledgeable very nice and willing to help anyway she can.
