If you can get the museum to allow you to take a photo of the original
(which is long out of copyright) you can post it. But if you scan a
professional photo of the old master painting, you have violated the
copyright of the photographer (or more likely the museum which owns the
painting since they probably comissioned the photos).  The reasons
museums don't allow photos isn't so much that the flash damages the
paintings but because they get big bucks from selling reproductions of
the paintings!
