We used a similar method in reviewing local technology grants in our district. The tech committee had to "study" 20 or so grants in a day and decide what was to be funded. I agree with Donna in that what others found important was not what I saw. Also, the 2 grants I personally wrote were not reviewed well even though two different people were responsible for the reviews. I felt that the hours spent writing were somehow not important. Perhaps we would be doing much the same with "real" authors if this method was a primary learning tool. Reading is getting some hard knocks anyway. We shouldn't add to the decline.
