I do a Caldecott unit each year with second grade.  One activity I have
thought could be used with older students is to do a timeline.  Have
students use  pictures of events from years or decades and illustrate with
book titles and pictures.  I made a display of the winning titles from each
year.  Printed outt the year and the winning book with author and
illustrator.  We started with 1938 and filled the wall.  It makes it easy
to discuss time.
