The Golden Compass - anbaric power

Dear LM_netters,

On page 10 of The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, in the 3rd paragraph from
the bottom of the page we read, "The common room and the library were lit by
anbaric power ...."  I can't find the definition of anbaric in my
dictionaries.  Can you help me find its meaning?
