Midd - Sustained Silent Reading

Everyone,
        My Middle School Principal and I are trying to start a sustained
silent reading program for next year.  He would like to know if there is
any place on the internet with evidence to the advantages to this program.
I have given him the information that I have and I've checked the
archieves, but thought I'd check with everyone for additional
information/ideas.  TIA
