There are very few commercial publishers for large print books for children. In the 1996 edition of The Complete Directory of Large Print Books and Serials, there are only 5 pages of children's books listed. Some publishers you might try are: Cornerstone Books Pages, Inc, 801 94th Avenue N. St. Petersburg, FL 33702 (800) 879-4459 Galaxy Children's Large Print Fiction Chivers North America Box 1450 Hampton, NH 03843-1450 (800) 621-0182 Note: This is a British company, and most of the authors are British. Books use British spelling. Thorndike Press P.O. Box 159 Thorndike, Maine 04986 (800) 223-6121 Gareth Stevens Inc. 1555 N. RiverCenter Dr., Suite 201 Milwaukee, WI 53212 (800) 433-0942 The advantages of the commercially produced books are they look like "ordinary" books (not the huge books the kids hate to carry) and they are generally not too expensive (usually under $20.00). The disadvantage is the "large print" may not be large enough for your student. Another place to get large print books is: Library Reproduction Service 1977 S. Los Angeles Street Los Angeles, CA 90011-1096 (800) 255-5002 Lrsprint@aol.com They have many titles available, and will also do custom orders, including special type sizes. The disadvantage is they are VERY expensive. For example, the Goosebumps books are approximately $72.00 each. They produce the large print textbooks for grades K-8 for California.
