I agree that this is an interesting request. Worn out teacher seems to be the level of thinking that it is common in many arenas when librarians are mentioned (i.e. the legislature in Texas requires that librarians have a teaching certificate, but make NO requirement about library school really. One can take the EXCET test and just "be a librarian."): Folks like me who have NEVER been in a classroom have to go around everyone's elbow trying to get into a school library without classroom experience first. I just completed my first year in an elementary school library and LOVE it for many of the reasons already mentioned. I like the variety that an elementary school provides: 4 years old up to 12 years old. There are questions that have to do with "that fish chasing fish book" -- Blue Sea by Kalan. Then there are questions in the upper grades about bulimia and gangs and sex. So, I get the joy of helping small children enjoy their beginning library and reading experiences while helping preteens be successful in their quests for much needed information. Carol M.
