I was an elementary teacher for 11 years. When my long-awaited son was
born, I couldn't bear the thought of leaving him to go back to work that
first year. I applied for a sabbatical leave, but I had to be enrolled
in a formal program so I chose Library Media. After a few more years in
4th grade, a Media Specialist retired and they offered it to me. I have
had 2 elementary schools for the last 3 years. The first year, we got
Internet access in the library so I had to quickly start learning about
it myself in order to help others. The second year we went through
retrospective conversion for Dynix. This last year we finally got Dynix
and went through the training. It seems like I've been so busy learning
all this exciting technology that I never had a *calm* year to get
organized! That's OK, because I've recently been informed that I am the
best qualified person to replace the High School Media Specialist. I have
no background in secondary, other than having gone to high school myself.
I will gladly accept any suggestions and advice about making the transition.
Life as a media specialist...always learning and never dull!
