Dear Netters, I had to write my story briefly -- ego and enjoyment of reading the comments by others. I always loved history in school -- I mean really loved it! I majored in hist. and English and Sec. Ed. in college. At twenty-two I began eight pretty good years in Dallas pub. sch. as a high school Eng. teacher, but most of those years I taught secondary reading. In regular Eng. and reading I couldn't keep up with the grading load. I tried, really I did. I asked to be put in history, but the administrator laughed! Only coaches were hist. teachers to his way of thinking. (Isn't that sad?) I was sooo young; I probably would handle him differently now. Anyway, unathletic as I was, I actually coached bowling for two yrs. I sponsored different things -- pep squad & junior vars. cheerleaders but no history teaching was coming my way. After seven years I was the Eng. and reading teacher with the most seniority. I didn't have the interest to get a master's in English (or in reading) and was frightened a little about a master's in history. So, rather than pursue conselling as a master's, I chose an avocational interest READING and books, which, needless to say any lib. must love. In high school and as a teacher in h.s. my favorite place was the library! I actually jumped to study lib. sc.; could someone really get paid for this????? That's basically my story, and now that I've been in education 24 years, I've never regretted bailing out of CLASSROOM teaching, but I teach love, kindness and library every single day. There are so many challenges in the lib. and one day is never the same. However, I have not read one single min. at my desk as I thought I would.
