I was just very lucky to end up as a Library Media Specialist. In
college, I was going to go into Medical Technology, but could not see
through a microscope and had trouble with higher level math, so I gave
that up. Then, I took on a Social Studies Education degree (7-12)
because I liked one of my history professors. In my junior year,
someone suggested that I should also have a second field to increase my
job hunting chances, and I decided on library science because it had
fewer hours than any other minor. I also started working in the college
library. When I graduated (after working at a bank for a year and a
half), the first job that came up that I was qualified for was a high
school library position, so I took it. It's been the perfect job for
me: I love books and reading, buying new materials is always a thrill
for me, it has been wonderful learning all the technology of AV and
video equipment and now we have computers which I just adore. AND I
really enjoy working with high school age kids! Sometimes, you just get
lucky!

As for where I am going, I see technology and computers playing an
increasingly central role in the school. I am very central to those
advancements currently, but I hope to see others on staff develop their
confidence to where they will be more independent. But, I think I will
always serve in the role that one mailing list has assigned me:
Technology Champion.
