Dear Netters:

Our local police department is trying to find a hit-and-run driver who
knocked our transformer off its blocks two days ago. To the tune of
about $10,000, the power company is restoring power to the school. BUT
when the power is back on, we're afraid of what we'll find!! The
power company officials believe there was some kind of "explosion" or
powerful surge through the building.

Our computer lab has a UPS and seems to be okay. Jostens tells us
that the surge box would have literally blown apart and it's still
together. That's the good news.

What about the few computers that were plugged in and may have been
turned on? What about our modem? What about copier machines? and
TVs?

Have any of you had similar experiences? I'm wondering what headaches
might await me. Coincidentally, my family is leaving today on a
week's vacation, so it won't do me any good to worry a lot at this
point.

Thanks for any ideas you can send my way.
