Dear Netters: Our school district is in the middle of a retroactive conversion of our card catalogs to the Athena automation software program. We are using the Brodart Precision One cataloging CD software for processing our books. Here is our problem: Our district administration believes that we can take the library database from elementary school library "A" and transfer that database to elementary school library "B" to save time catagloging the many duplicate titles that our six elementary school libraries own. Each book, of course, has to have its individual bar code, vendor, date of acquistion, etc. Has anyone found shortcuts to retroactive conversion using Athena or Precision One? Any suggestions for MARC record entries that might help? Two librarians and the clerk hired for database entry have tried in our limited knowledge to find "shortcuts" for this conversion. Any suggestions would be very helpful. I'll post a hit of suggestions. Thanks.
